How To Choose A Tuxedo Type

Tuxedos come in a wide variety of styles. People looking to buy a tuxedo can pick from double breasted tuxedos or single breasted tuxedos. They can also choose between three different lapel styles. One can even decide on how many buttons they want to have on their tuxedo as well as the color they want the tuxedo to be.

For the uninitiated, buying a tuxedo can be a very tough task. In this article, I'll try to make things easier for the novice tuxedo buyer by explaining the different types of tuxedo styles one can choose from.

Firstly, the lapel styles are what really set each style of tuxedo apart. One of the great things about the tuxedo is that you can change the look and formality of the tux just by changing the style lapel you buy. There are three different types of lapels. These are the shawl, notch, and peak lapel styles.

The shawl lapel is the least formal and resembles the smoking jacket. Notched lapel tuxedos have lapels that are made just like a standard suit. The peak lapel is the most formal and has lapels that point up and out. Most people choose this type of tuxedo for their weddings.

You'll find that the most common button numbers are either one or two button tuxedo jackets. Some designers go wild and add up to six buttons on their tuxedos, but these are not typical. People buying a tux for the first time should stick to two and one button tuxedo models.

Black is the most popular tuxedo color, but you can find many other shades. If you are going for a traditional color, you should stick with either black or a midnight blue.

Single and double breasted tuxedo styles can be selected from. The double breasted jacket will overlap when buttoned while the single breasted tux will not. Single breasted tuxedos are the most popular and you will rarely see young people wearing a double breasted tux.

When you go shopping for a new tuxedo to buy, the best thing to do is to just get a single buttoned, single breasted, peaked lapel, black tuxedo. Buy this and you will be able to wear it anywhere that requires a tuxedo.
